Caving

Deep Freeze
Ice Formations in Fulford Cave

Caving can be a lot of fun, but it can also be quite physically and mentally demanding. We’ve been caving since our “college days” at Wittenberg University where we were introduced to the underground world on W.U.S.S. (Wittenberg University Speleological Society) trips. Since then, we’ve been lucky enough to cave several areas around the country. Since we currently live in Colorado, most of our trips are within the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. The picture at the left was taken in Fulford cave on a trip early in the spring of 2007. The image was a 30 second exposure recorded with a lamp placed behind the glowing stalagmite and the camera propped on a makeshift tripod. A technique know as light painting was used to illuminate the foreground with an LED headlamp (hence the blueish tint). The original image was recorded using 100 speed Fuji Velvia color transparency film in a Nikon SLR fitted with a 28 mm f/4 lens. Please take the time to enjoy some of our trip reports and photos.
