Thursday, March 24: My Birthday!

By Phoebe

On Thursday Mom and I got up and went down to a bakery just down the hill our apartment was on. We collected some cinnamon rolls for us and “an almond thing” for dad. We picked up groceries in the cute little shop on our hill and went back to the apartment for breakfast. Upon reentering the building we were greeted with a balloon and a paper 12 on the door.

After breakfast we decided to go to the Norwegian Knitting Museum and the Bergan library. We drove out to the Knitting museum and looked at textiles until our tour was started. We were shown a movie about the history from the first factory until it’s closing. After the movie we were shown through the different floors of the original factory. Each floor was dedicated to a different part of the process. There was a brushing and cleaning room, a room to make the wool into thread, a room with knitting machines, and a room for sewing.

After the Museum we went back to the Apartment and ate lunch then set out for the library. Dad had a work meeting and missed seeing the library with Mom, Ben, and me. We looked around the amazing kids room which was complete with a big multi-layer place for sitting and an English section with books I could read. Mom and I read a picture book about Elvis it had very cool illustrations.

After the library, we walked to a cupcake shop and picked up some treats for later. We also stopped at the grocery store near the apartment to get the ingredients for pork fried rice—Phoebe likes to make it for her birthday if we can’t get it at Benihana. It tasted good, but we’re pretty sure the Teflon coating from the pan flaked off into it, so we all ate less than we might otherwise have.

We gave Phoebe a couple of small gifts on her actual birthday, though she waited until Dave got back to Colorado to open the majority.

Birthday girl.

After Phoebe went to bed, I went for a night walk. It was really fun to be out by myself and do a little wayfinding.
